Our parent-teacher organizations, volunteers, and mentors are anintegral component of our schools. Parents, grandparents, andvolunteers participate in the classrooms and media centers on a weeklybasis. In addition, we have numerous guest speakers who give their timeon special occasions and businesses that sponsor, support, and makepossible many programs.

This phenomenal level of community support attests to how positively Transylvania County citizens view our schools. We encourage parent andcommunity participation in the classroom as teaching partners, and wevalue the breadth and scope of this support, from the arts to thesciences, to providing valuable links with the business community.

Caringfor others is a focus of community programs such as the weekly visit tothe Brian Center by the Brevard Elementary Chorus where they sing forand with residents. Other community programs such as T.C. Henderson's"Habitat in Crisis" and Wildflower Trail stress preserving andprotecting our environment. All schools have specific programs withlinks to the community. One only has to visit any school in thedistrict to see this involvement.

All Transylvania County Schools welcomeparents and volunteers in many areas. The annual Science Fair includescommunity members who lend their expertise to the judging of school anddistrict competitions.

In order to graduate from TransylvaniaCounty Schools, all seniors must complete a Senior Project. CommunityMembers often serve as mentors to provide suggestions and guidance asprojects develop. Many members of the community apply their expertiseand talents as participants on the project review boards.

Business partnerships support student internships and career awareness.Communities in Schools of Transylvania County, Inc. continues to add toan already impressive list of collaborations with Transylvania CountySchools.
