Give 5, Read 5

Announcing the 4th Annual Give 5, Read 5 Campaign!

Have you ever heard of the term summer loss? This is not a seasonal diet or exercise program, but a troubling trend in which students lose valuable literacy skills when they stop reading during their break from school.

Many children are susceptible to this problem because they often go home to an environment where there are very few books or other reading resources. As a result, by the end of fifth grade, these students are approximately 2 ½ years behind their more affluent peers in terms of reading ability, primarily because of summer loss.

Please join us in helping the children of Rosman Elementary School avoid this summer loss. It’s as easy as 1...2...3… or A...B...C… Please donate gently used or new books to RES before June 5, 2017. We will give these books to our students along with summer reminders to READ, READ, READ! We would love to be able to send 5 books home with each of our 305 students!!
