For Remind users who are also Verizon Wireless Customers:
Update #1: January 16, 2019Remind is changing in January 2019 for Verizon Wireless customers. Verizon will begin charging a fee to Remind, and their customers will no longer be able to receive text message updates via Remind for free. We do not expect to pay for an upgrade to a school or district plan at this time.
To continue receiving updates without interruption, Verizon customers will need to download the smartphone app, turn on email notifications, or both. The change happens January 28, 2019. If you have questions about the change, we have this Remind help document which also links to support pages on the Remind website, if needed.
Thank you for using Remind to stay in touch with your favorite teachers, coaches, and Transylvania County Schools!Update #2: January 17, 2019There has been a new development in this situation, and while all users may still download the smartphone app, turn on email notifications, or both, Verizon customers will no longer need to change their settings to continue using Remind to receive text message alerts. Read more below. From an article on the EdSurge website:By Wednesday evening, January 16, Verizon made it clear that it was not going to stand in the way of students, parents and educators and a tool many consider essential to classroom communication today.
“We are dedicated to ensuring that our network is available and accessible to users who rely on us for important information like school closings, classroom activities and more,” wrote Rich Young, a Verizon spokesperson, in a statement to EdSurge. “So to ensure [Remind] can continue offering this service in an economically reasonable manner, we will not charge for delivering these messages.”
