Our schools’ “big play” moment arrived recently when Governor Roy Cooper ordered North Carolina public schools to close, in order to help slow the spread of coronavirus infection across our state. What began as a two-week closure was later extended through May 15. In this story, we celebrate the efforts of School Nutrition Services in Transylvania County Schools to refocus their enterprise and rewrite their playbook over a hectic three days, to meet an unprecedented need for the community’s children.

This difficult decision errs on the side of caution, due to the most recent events and the governor's announcement of a state of emergency for the state of North Carolina.

Missy Ellenberger Named CTE and High School Curriculum Director

Superintendent Dr. Jeff McDaris has named Missy Ellenberger as Director of Career and Technical Education (CTE) and High School Curriculum for Transylvania County Schools, effective July 1, 2020. Ellenberger most recently served as Curriculum Director for kindergarten through twelfth grade for the past year. For over 25 years, she has served Transylvania County Schools as teacher, coach, career development coordinator, assistant principal, and central office administrator.

Meals will be served through Thursday, April 9, and resume April 20 after Spring Break. Supplemental food is being sent home on a specified day for each area this week. COVID-19 Update 15 - March 30 - “Stay At Home” Order Takes Effect

We have settled into our Virtual Day schedule through May 15. Over the last two weeks, we have refined our delivery of meals and academics, and now we are set to stay the course. According to Governor Cooper’s most recent order, everyone in the state should “Stay At Home” except for essential business, starting today, March 30, at 5pm.
