We have a plan. It's already in motion.
Transylvania County Schools Pandemic Plan - Emergency Planning describes actions for Transylvania County Schools to take directly and in conjunction with partner agencies to mitigate and prepare for any outbreak, and when needed, to activate response and recovery plans.
If cases of coronavirus disease occur in our area, what will happen next?
On March 22, 2020, the first confirmed case of COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease) was reported in our area. In all that follows, we continue to rely on Transylvania Public Health to report any new cases, and we will engage in the same interagency cooperation that marks any threat response in our area. We will partner with county public health and public safety, emergency management, law enforcement, and any other agencies assisting in the response.
There are scenarios for using school system resources as part of a community-wide response and recovery to an outbreak. We remain constantly aware that schools play a central role during events that engage the whole community.
Depending on the nature of any threat and response, we remain confident that strong partnerships, built during periods of planning and preparation, will help us deal effectively with any incident.
What can parents do proactively to protect their child’s health?
As noted above, during cold and flu season, by far the most important thing families can do is to model and teach good hygiene with hand-washing, coughing, and sneezing, and to take common sense precautions to protect against the spread of respiratory illness. It is always important to wash or sanitize hands after using the bathroom or touching door handles, shared computers, etc.
