COVID-19 Update 14 - March 27 - Stay At Home
Posted on 03/27/2020

Dear Transylvania County Schools families,

Thank you for helping us get through an incredible week. On Monday, we continue our schedule with Virtual Day #12. Our elementary students have now received packets for several weeks, and Chromebooks are going home for students in grades 3 through 5.

Today, Governor Roy Cooper announced an executive order for North Carolinians to stay at home starting March 30 at 5:00 pm for the next 30 days, except for performing essential work, to slow the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

We are awaiting further guidance on how this will affect our school buildings, but be assured that our district will keep providing blended learning for students, and continue all essential services for children, families, and our community as far as we are able during this time.

For staff who receive paper checks: this does mean checks are being mailed, and will not be available for pickup as usual.

Our educators and staff take great pride and joy in seeing students and families online, at meal sites, or briefly at our schools, and we urge everyone at home to heed this order for yourself and those around you.

There is also new guidance today from Transylvania County and Transylvania Public Health. We have links to all this information and the Governor’s executive order here in our Daily Update and on our website.

A special note: Transylvania Public Health is urgently seeking donations of personal protective gear for our health care workers. They are asking for protective masks and face shields, exam gloves, procedure gowns, and disposable shoe covers. Download a flyer for details. Donations may be dropped off Monday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm, at the County Library.

We have read many messages from parents, teachers, and principals, about how much we all miss being together at school, and we do. Thank you on behalf of everyone in our schools for sending those good wishes, and keep them coming.

We hope you have a safe and enjoyable weekend as we all “stay at home” until this situation improves. Good night.
