Transylvania County Schools

April 5, 2020

Board Meeting Online—Monday, April 6

The Transylvania County Board of Education will hold a regular business meeting on Monday, April 6, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. at the Morris Education Center, 225 Rosenwald Lane, Brevard.

In accordance with NC Open Meetings Law, the meeting is open to the public; however, the Governor's Stay at Home Executive Order limits non-essential travel and public gatherings to 10 people. The board intends to comply with the Executive Order, and board members and staff in attendance will practice social distancing to protect the health and safety of others.

The meeting may be viewed online by all members of the public online (bit.ly/tcboe0406).

Any person wishing to address the board during Public Comment should email their comment(s) beforehand to Jenny Hunter at [email protected] and their item will be read aloud at the meeting as appropriate, within board guidelines.

The agenda for the April 6, 2020 meeting is now available on the Transylvania County Board of Education website and on our home page tcsnc.org/board under “Board Agendas.”

Virtual Spirit Week

Send us your pictures, or post them for us to share! All are invited to join our first district-wide “Virtual Spirit Week.” We cherish opportunities to stay connected, and this is one way students, staff, and families can enjoy interacting with one another before we head into Spring Break.

Mellow Monday—Hooray, PJ Day! (Best Monday ever…)

Tribute Tuesday—Who makes you proud? Show us someone you salute.

Workspace Wednesday—Show us your happy place.

Thumbs Up Thursday—Bring out your best in art, music, dance, any handiwork at all

Fan Colors Friday—Dress out in spirit gear for your school or team!

Use hashtag #TCSTogether on your public post in Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. Or send photos and videos by email or in Google Drive to [email protected]

Staff and students may already be offline Friday, since we preserved the Optional Teacher Workday for April 10th. Everyone is welcome to post or send snapshots for any of the daily themes, at any point during the week. Send them early if you like, and we will share as part of each day’s celebration!

New Guidance For Families

The NC Department of Public Instruction has posted answers to Frequently Asked Questions for parents of students in all grades. Topics range from graduation to testing, grades, and promotion. We will customize this information soon to address questions from Transylvania County Schools families, including end-of-year events and other important matters.

Please do not hesitate to ask questions. Your school system, teachers, and administrators are prepared to dispel any rumors and support you and your child each day. Additional changes announced by the State Board of Education are being shared with staff as needed.

School Nutrition—Boxes Sent Home for Spring Break

While meal delivery continues this week, an additional box of frozen and shelf-stable foods will be sent home for families who qualify. We continue to take applications for free-and-reduced lunch on the TCS Nutrition website at lunchapplication.com, and we also started a new Facebook page to showcase our cafeteria operations. We invite everyone to enjoy & participate!
