November 15 Board Update - Masks Optional

November 15 Board Update - Masks Optional
Posted on 11/17/2021
Masks Optional effective November 29, 2021

During Monday's meeting, the Board of Education voted to make face coverings optional for all students, staff, and school visitors in all school settings, effective Monday, November 29.

Face coverings are still required while traveling on buses and all other group transportation settings, per Federal Transportation and CDC Orders.

Again, beginning on Monday, November 29, all TCS students, staff, and visitors now have the option to wear a mask or not in all TCS facilities during school hours and all extracurricular activities.
Protocols regarding exposures and quarantine are as follows per the NCDHHS: Individuals who are not fully vaccinated after close contact in a classroom or other school setting if masks were being worn appropriately and consistently by both the person with COVID-19 and the potentially exposed person do NOT need to quarantine. This is based on updated studies that have shown a low risk of COVID-19 transmission in classroom settings when face masks were being used appropriately by both the person with COVID-19 and the potentially exposed person, as well as multiple layers of prevention measures in place to prevent transmission in school settings. This applies to exposures in classrooms, other in-school settings, and school transportation but does not apply to exposures during extracurricular, including athletic activities.

Per NC General Assembly requirements, the Board of Education will continue to have monthly votes on continuing or modifying the current mask policy. The next vote will be at the December 20 meeting.
