The incoming Principal at Brevard Middle School is thrilled to work in the community she will soon call home. Tammy Deaver has been named the new principal of Brevard Middle School and will begin in her new position on November 28, 2022.
Deaver's excitement to join Transylvania County Schools is evident, “My family just purchased land in Pisgah Forest, and we have started building our forever home! I have always believed that serving in the community where you live is so valuable. I am very excited to join the TCS
team and community!” stated Deaver.
The Transylvania County Board of Education named Tammy Deaver Brevard Middle Schools' new Principal during their regular meeting on Tuesday, October 18, 2022.
Superintendent Dr. Jeff McDaris stated, “Mrs.Deaver brings a wealth of experience to her new role with Transylvania County Schools. She has previously served as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, and principal in North Carolina. We are excited to have her join our TCS
family and look forward to her leadership at Brevard Middle School.”
Deaver began her career as a teacher and SIT chair at Enka Middle School and Valley Springs
Middle School. She additionally served as athletic director for Valley Springs.
After ten years in the classroom, Deaver moved into the role of Assistant Principal for the next eight years of her career. Waynesville Middle School was the home of her first role as assistant principal, followed by time at Rugby Middle School and Hendersonville High School. Deaver
continued her time in education and the growth of her career four years ago when she took the position of Principal at Fletcher Elementary.
When asked how her previous roles prepared her for taking the lead at Brevard Middle, she said, “I love middle school! I taught middle school for ten years and was also an assistant principal in middle school for four years. Having spent 14 years in a middle school setting hastaught me so much about adolescents, instructional expectations, and essential secondary requirements. My background in high school and elementary administration has also given me
the knowledge to know the foundation of where students are coming from and where they're going!”
Deaver received a Bachelor’s Degree in Family and Consumer Sciences and teacher certification from Appalachian State University.
She earned her Master’s Degree in School Administration from Gardner Webb.
Transylvania County Schools Director of K-8 Curriculum Carrie Norris said, “We are pleased to have Mrs. Tammy Deaver join Transylvania County Schools. Her leadership at the elementary, middle, and high school levels will serve her well as she guides Brevard Middle School to continued excellence. Mrs. Deaver is an instructional leader with high expectations that understands that building relationships with students, staff, and the community is key.”
