Federal Programs

Transylvania County Schools receives approximately $2.5 million from the federal government each year. These funds support the following programs:

  • Special Education for students ages three through twenty-one
  • Title One
  • Title IX
  • Title XX
  • Section 504
  • English as a Second Language
  • Safe and Drug Free Schools
  • Technology Training
  • Career and Technical Education
  • Teacher Quality
  • Learn and Serve

The primary focus of federal funds is to supplement local and state funds, not supplant local and state funds. Approximately 55 positions in the school system are funded through federal funds. Funding is also used for staff development, parent involvement, contracted services, and supplies and materials. Public meetings are held in May for input on these programs from the public. Notices are posted on the Transylvania County Schools' website, Cable TV, The Transylvania Times, and the Mountain Voice.
