What does the Free and Reduced-Price School Meals program offer you?
The program offers free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch to eligible students.
Other benefits of being eligible include:
-Fee waivers for College Entrance Exam (SAT)
-Fee waivers for certain afterschool programs
-Fee waivers for applications at many colleges and universities*
-Your school may receive additional funding
*To be considered for a fee waiver, a copy of the eligibility letter mailed to households must be presented.
How do you qualify for benefits?
The first step is to complete an application for Free and Reduced-Price School Meals. Based on income, a family may qualify using several factors, including household income, the number of persons living in the household, and whether the family is currently receiving Food and Nutrition Services (formerly Foods Stamps) or TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) benefits.
You have two options on how to submit a Free and Reduced-Price School Meals Application.
-Apply online at www.LunchApplication.com for your children to receive free or reduced-price school meals. Your application will be sent from a secure website directly to Transylvania County Schools, so you don’t need to worry about filling out a paper form that could be lost or misplaced.
-www.LunchApplication.com has been designed to make it easy for you to know exactly what information you need to provide and to guide you through the process. Once your application has been received, the district office will determine your eligibility and send you a letter with the results.

-We cannot accept faxed or digital applications
If you have already received a letter stating that your child was preapproved for meal benefits, you do not need to reapply. Please make sure all of the school-aged children living in your household are listed on the approval letter. If not, please contact the School Nutrition Services Office at (828) 884-6173.
