As challenging as the last few years have been, especially for bands and choirs around the country, students in the Brevard High band have continued to push through and receive amazing musical accolades.
Three Brevard High School Band students auditioned and were chosen this year to participate in the Western District North Carolina Honor Bands at Western Carolina University. Each student submitted a video audition in which they performed eight major scales, the chromatic scale, and a prepared solo. Band directors, college professors, and other professional musicians from across western North Carolina judged the audition videos. The top scoring students from each band section were then placed into two bands based on grade level. Students receiving the highest scores were then eligible to audition for the All-State Honors Band.
We wish to congratulate…
Freshman, Mya Parlier - 11th Chair Clarinet
Sophomore, Trevor Long - 2nd Chair Tuba
Junior, Brayden Grosvenor - 6th Chair Trombone
Due to his very high score and placement, Trevor Long was eligible to audition at the state level against the top 21 freshmen and sophomore tuba players from across North Carolina. Based on his audition, Trevor was selected as the 3rd Chair Tuba in the state and performed at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill with 98 of the best high school musicians in our state on May 1st, 2022.
“We are so unbelievably proud of Trevor, as well as our All-District Band participants, Mya and Brayden. This is an accomplishment that is extremely challenging during a normal year. With COVID restrictions, virtual auditions, and limited access to musical resources over the past two years, these students certainly went above and beyond!” says Andrew Jimeson, new Director of Bands at Brevard High School.
