Jeff Bailey, Principal of Brevard Middle, is stepping into his next chapter of life as he begins retirement after a 30-year career in education. Mr. Bailey will remain the principal until October 31, 2022.

"Mr. Bailey has worked tirelessly during his years at BMS, especially during the pandemic, to create an environment conducive to learning and educating students. He has worked to alleviate as many obstacles as possible so that teachers could concentrate on building relationships and educating students, and students could concentrate on learning." said teacher Mellissa Howell. Having spent 20 of his 30 years in education here in Transylvania County, his absence will truly be felt. Longtime friend and colleague Mark Bumgarner said of Bailey, “he is a man of true integrity.”

Mr. Bailey began his career in 1992 at Brevard Middle as a physical education teacher, basketball coach, and assistant coach for football and golf at Brevard High School. He spent nine years in Transylvania County before heading to Henderson County Public schools to continue as a physical education teacher and head football coach for a time at both North Henderson and West Henderson. Bailey returned to the Brevard district in 2010 as the Brevard High head football coach and then moved back to his current location at Brevard Middle in 2013. Since returning to Brevard Middle, he has served as Assistant Principal for two years and has completed his last seven years in education as Principal.

Superintendent Dr. Jeff McDaris stated, “Mr. Bailey has always put the student’s best interests; first, Jeff Bailey leaves a legacy of caring education with his retirement. As a teacher, coach, and administrator, Jeff has worked on behalf of children throughout his 30-year career. A graduate of Brevard High School and our Transylvania County Schools, Mr. Bailey brought a calm presence and steady leadership to his job every day. Leadership matters and Jeff is a

leader. He will be sorely missed. We wish him the best as he begins a well-deserved retirement and the new adventures ahead.
