Starting the new school year for 2023-2024, David “Mick” Galloway will step up to lead the Brevard High School Blue Devils.
“I am extremely humbled and grateful that I have been given this opportunity to lead such a great school community with the tradition of Brevard HS. The fact that I will be able to continue to work beside a dedicated group of education professionals, and hopefully be able to provide the stability and consistency that is needed within any organization to be successful, ” expressed Mr. Galloway on his new role at Brevard High.
As a product of Transylvania County Schools (TCS) and with 29 years of experience in education all working within TCS, Superintendent Dr. Fletcher knew after speaking with him he was ready to step up as principal, “With Mr. Galloway, it is obvious he has a genuine love for the students and Brevard High. Having been in both the assistant principal and athletic director roles, he is familiar with every student and has built strong relationships in the community. I’m excited to walk alongside Mr. Galloway as he begins serving as the leader of Brevard High.”
Galloway has spent his educational career in both the Rosman and Brevard area schools, taking on the role of physical education teacher at Brevard Elementary, followed by T.C. Henderson. He then moved to Rosman High School, serving as athletic director, teacher, and coach. He has been helping lead the Brevard High blue devils as assistant principal and athletic director for the last nine years.
His dedication is evident to Brevard High, and as he said, “I may have changed offices and parking spaces, but my leadership role will always be about serving kids and making decisions in the best interest of our students and staff.”
As he begins this new chapter in his career his sights are set on what is important the students and staff, “My biggest hope for the next part of my journey in education is to create an environment where teachers enjoy teaching and the students enjoy learning. Creating a school community with high morale amongst students and staff where learning is of the utmost importance. There is no greater charge in our job than to make the school feel reaffirming, purposeful, and powerful to students and staff and one that the community is proud of.”
Galloway earned his bachelor’s of science in education and completed his master’s of school administration from Western Carolina University.
