COVID-19 Update 5 - Monday, March 16, 2020
Posted on 03/16/2020

Dear TCS Families,

While our schools remain closed for direct instruction during the next two weeks, the school district will continue to actively monitor the COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease) situation, in conjunction with local, state, and federal health officials and many supportive partners.

In this update, you will find:

  • Schedule for contacting your child’s school

  • Virtual Day calendar (elementary: days 3 through 6 this week)

  • Food deliveries—planned to start Wednesday, details coming Tuesday

School Access and Connectivity

Your administrators will be at school at least from 7:30 to 3:30 during this period of school closure. This is so you can count on having a contact to speak to, as well as a supportive presence, at least between 8:00 and 3:00 each day. It also offers you the chance to retrieve any belongings that may have been left at school by our unexpected closure.

Food Deliveries Set to Begin Wednesday

Plans for food delivery to students are underway and will be finalized tomorrow (Tuesday) with deliveries expected to begin Wednesday, March 18. We will send a schedule and description of the program with our next daily update by 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17.

Students, families, and our whole community are still seeking out a “new normal,” as conditions continue to change rapidly. Our whole staff — educators, counselors, social workers, support staff, SROs, and administrators — is here to support you and your family on the path forward.

Virtual Days for Continued Learning

  • Tuesday, March 17-Friday, March 27 will be Virtual Days for our school system. March 23 was originally a teacher workday, but has changed to a Virtual Day.

  • Students using learning packets have received materials for Virtual Days through March 20.

  • These are days 3 through 6 for elementary schools, and the following week’s lessons will be delivered to elementary schools tomorrow.

  • We will provide more details very soon on how parents may collect materials for the week of March 23-27, days 7 through 11.

We hope this note finds you and your family all doing well. This is a time of unprecedented and intense change. While you are using our website, view our previous health updates and find helpful information from health officials helping to keep our community healthy.

Continue to visit transylvaniahealth.org for reminders about hand-washing and using physical distance to avoid infection, and the steps to follow if you or your child need medical treatment.

Your school district will continue to meet with leaders in local health, service, and emergency management to ensure that we are doing everything possible for the health and well-being of everyone in our community.

Thank you for staying informed, and for staying in touch to support the continued growth of your family, and our TCS family.
