Lystra Keever

Greetings!  I am Lystra Keever, and I am so glad to have your child in First Grade this year.  This is my 30th year of teaching in Transylvania County. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education (K-6) from Mars Hill University and a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Western Carolina University.  In 2001, I earned my National Board Certification.

I have a passion for working with children, creativity, and inspiring students to be their best. Teaching is an important part of my life.  I truly love teaching, especially First Grade!  I so enjoy six and seven year olds and all the joy they bring to our classroom.  I enjoy teaching all subjects and helping students make new discoveries and connections as they learn.

I have two cats…Bootsie and Buckshot.  Buckshot is my white “Special Needs” rescue as she is deaf.  In my spare time, I ride four wheelers and enjoy spending time at the cabin with my family. I love to thrift shop, collect children’s books, and eat out!  I also love sunshine and happiness!  I am a Rosman Tiger fan!

My teaching style is a hands-on approach with active learning through the use of centers, reading and writing workshops, and math stations.  I make learning fun!

I believe in a strong home and school connection and that by working as a team we will help your child be the best he/she can be in First Grade.  I pride myself on instilling a lifelong love of reading and learning in my students.  Most of all, I want your child to feel success every day and to love school and learning.

I look forward to our partnership again with you and your child this year.   Please contact me here at school at 862-4431 or send an e-mail message if you have any questions or concerns.
