Teacher Highlight | Mr. Fisher

Mr. Fisher is beginning his 23rd year of teaching at Davidson River School, and his dedication continues to leave a lasting impact on students and the Transylvania County Schools community.

As a cornerstone of our district's only alternative school, he has played an essential role in supporting and shaping the lives of countless students.

“His ability to connect with students, both academically and personally, is nothing short of remarkable. Whether in the classroom or in conversation, he fosters an environment of trust, respect and growth,” said Dr. Brown, Davidson River Principal.

How does he accomplish this level of student engagement and connection year after year? For Mr. Fisher, there are as many answers to that question as there are students in his classes.

“It depends on the student,” he said, pointing to flexibility, creativity and being adaptive to each student’s needs and interests as key factors.

Mr. Fisher’s interest in education and his love for Transylvania County’s natural surroundings, where he spends time rock climbing and mountain biking, originally drew him to the area decades ago. He soon joined Davidson River School as a math teacher, and has served the DRS community ever since.

“It’s hard to explain. This school, something about me and this school, just fit,” Mr. Fisher said.

While he teaches math, this veteran educator works to promote the growth of the whole student, so they can be more future-ready and practice good decision-making skills and resilience in the face of challenges.

“Every day, Mr. Fisher brings not only his deep expertise but also a contagious sense of humor and genuine joy,” Dr. Brown said. “It is a true joy and privilege to work alongside Mr. Fisher. His commitment, character and heart for this work make him an extraordinary educator and an irreplaceable member of our team,” Dr. Brown said.
