Dozens of volunteers gathered at the Morris Education Center early Thursday morning to assemble meal bags as part of the Backpack Buddies program!
The Backpack Buddies Program provides nutritious, non-perishable food to students facing food insecurity during school breaks. School breaks can create a gap in food access that can impact students' well-being and academic performance, organizers said. The bags assembled on Thursday will go to more than 300 students across Transylvania County Schools.
The program is made possible by multiple community partners, including the Sharing House, the Hunger Coalition, TCS School Nutrition Department, Transylvania County Schools Educational Foundation, Brevard Wesleyan Church, Grace Church, TCS Student Services, and local volunteers.
