The Transylvania County Schools Board of Education voted at its most recent meeting to add 10 minutes of instructional time to each school day during the 2026–2027 school year. Please check the chart below to see how this will impact your school’s arrival and dismissal times.
Adding instructional time to the regular school day allows our schools to meet state requirements for in-person instructional time without requiring Saturday school or taking days away from Thanksgiving, winter, or spring breaks in the event of inclement weather.
Each school has a unique bell schedule to fit the needs of their students and staff. The 10 minutes will be spread throughout the day rather than added as a single block. Each principal will share a schedule with parents.
Because schools across the district already have slightly different start and end times due to shared bus routes and different bell schedules, please check your child's school in the graphic below for their specific updated dismissal time.
Leaders at each school in our district decide the best option for their staff and students as it relates to the sharing of buses, and departure and arrival times. While every school will have 10 minutes of instruction added to their day, some schools have added this instructional time throughout the day without extending the school day (shortening time spent on announcements, for example). School leaders will continue to work on developing bell schedules that minimize disruptions for parent and staff schedules.
We recognize that this change may require adjustments to family schedules, and we sincerely appreciate your understanding.
If you have questions, please contact your child's school or the Transylvania County Schools central office.

Transylvania County Schools is proud to announce Brandon Chase McIntyre has been selected to serve as our new BHS Head Football Coach!
Coach McIntyre is no stranger to the BHS community, having served as a teacher and assistant football coach right here at Brevard. A proud graduate of West Henderson High School with deep roots in Transylvania County, he went on to play football at Appalachian State before completing his undergraduate degrees in Spanish and Spanish Education at Western Carolina University. He later earned a Master of Arts in Teaching in Health and Physical Education, bringing a well-rounded academic and athletic foundation to his new role.
Since joining Transylvania County Schools in August 2022, Coach McIntyre has been an integral part of the Brevard football program, serving in several key leadership roles including Special Teams Coordinator, Recruiting Coordinator, Media Coordinator, and JV Offensive Coordinator. He has also coached multiple position groups, helping develop our student-athletes both on and off the field.
Beyond the gridiron, Coach McIntyre serves as a Physical Education & Health Teacher and Department Head at Brevard High School, where he has demonstrated outstanding leadership by expanding course offerings and creating new opportunities for students to stay active and engaged. He also helped establish the Student Athlete Advisory Council alongside Josh Galloway, further strengthening leadership opportunities for Brevard’s student-athletes.
Before joining the Brevard family, Coach McIntyre spent four years teaching and coaching in Buncombe County, including three years as a head football coach at the middle school level, experience that speaks directly to his ability to develop young athletes both on and off the field.
We are excited to see Coach McIntyre lead our program with the passion, familiarity, and dedication he has already shown our school and community. Please join us in congratulating him as he steps into this well-deserved role.
Coach McIntyre’s Message:
“I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to serve as the head football coach at Brevard High School. This program has a proud tradition of competitive football built on the commitment, toughness, and pride of those who came before us. My goal is to build on that foundation by developing a program rooted in discipline, accountability, and relentless effort. We will work to create a culture that reflects pride in the Blue Devils, where our players embrace hard work, compete with physicality and confidence, and represent Brevard with integrity both on and off the field.”
Meet & Greet Opportunity | Fans, players, and families are invited to meet Coach McIntyre on Thursday, March 26 at 5:30 PM in the BHS Auditorium.
Please join us in welcoming Coach McIntyre as we begin an exciting new chapter for Brevard Blue Devils Football!

👀 If you spot a crane at Brevard High School on Monday, here’s what’s going on: crews will be installing new softball field lights!
💡 These Olympia LED Stadium Sports Floodlights weigh almost 50 pounds each and will sit atop 60-foot steel poles.
⚾️ The softball field lighting upgrade is a capital project requested by the Board of Education and funded by the Board of Commissioners.
🚜 The project includes replacing wooden poles with steel poles, installing new floodlights, and upgrading the electrical system and switches.

The Governor’s School of North Carolina is the oldest statewide summer residential program for gifted and talented high school students in the nation. The program is administered by the State Board of Education and North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) through the Office of Advanced Learning & Gifted Education. Each summer, selected students are invited to Governor’s School to help build a learning community during a four-week residential session. Students are encouraged to explore and ask questions, with the purpose of learning for its own sake and discovering new possibilities that complement their high school instruction.

During the ceremony, Mr. Putnam helped recognize the accomplishments of a group of outstanding Career and Technical Education students who have put forth tremendous effort and shown great aptitude in their chosen trade area. Induction into the National Technical Honor Society is one the highest accomplishments that can be bestowed upon a Career and Technical Education student.
NTHS is the honor society for Career & Technical Education (CTE), an educational pathway that equips students with the practical skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in various industries and professions.
CTE emphasizes hands-on learning experiences, real-world applications and career-specific training for students. These programs empower students to explore diverse career options, develop essential workplace skills, and pursue pathways leading to meaningful employment or advanced education.
Congratulations to all of the inductees!
The MPA is an incredibly significant event for the music community, bringing together schools from across the state to perform for expert adjudicators. Every group that performed did a wonderful job, and it was a joy to have everyone here.
All of the participants truly shined. We are especially proud of our student musicians from BHS, BMS, RHS and RMS for representing our county with excellence.
Thank you to the NCBA, our visiting schools, and all the students and directors who made it such a special day.

These outstanding students were recognized at the ceremony and will be honored at the TC Scholar Banquet. They will serve an important role in this year's graduation ceremony, leading the senior class in procession and assisting throughout.
A special congratulations to:
Chief Junior Marshal: Lila Laughridge
Co-Chief Junior Marshal: Madeline Andrews
And to all of this year's Junior Marshals:
Madeline Adrignola, Sienna Cohen, Ella Crider, Abigail Dodd, Abigail Donnelly, Adeline Drennen, Sophie Dunbar, Elena Durant, Madison Galloway, Georgia Gerring, Eli Hardy, Rebecca Harris, Camden Jenkins, Alexis McCall, Ella Monk, Mia Booth Powell, Macy Rogers, Kodi Searcy, Naila Small, and Bradyn Toms.

Exciting things are happening at Davidson River School!
Teacher Sara Smith recently received a Creative Classrooms Grant from the Transylvania County Schools Educational Foundation to launch "Cultivate, Thrive, and Prosper," a hands-on agriculture and animal care program. The program empowers students to build real-world skills, explore career pathways, and grow in confidence and responsibility through therapeutic, project-based learning.
Right now, students are growing their own chicken feed by sprouting lentils in jars, washing and rinsing them daily. By day-3 they already had sprouts, and in about a week they will have a full jar ready to feed the school chickens!
The entire school community directly benefits from this project through beautification projects and hands-on STEAM learning.

The Ron Clark Academy House System creates a positive climate and culture for both students and staff. Within the specific houses, unique learning and leadership structures are created.
We believe, as does the Ron Clark Academy, that every student needs a cause and a crew to further enrich their education journey.

We are celebrating Brevard High School's DECA students following their major success at the Career Development Conference in Greensboro!
Out of 6,500 students competing from across the state, BHS students stood out.

Beyond the results, teachers from across the state noted our students were professional, polite and kind. They participated in workshops, took their competitions seriously and represented Brevard High School well.
Congratulations to the students and their DECA advisor, Laura Smith!
