This statement relates to any on campus and off campus incidents involving students in the Transylvania County Schools (“TCS”): Student safety and well-being is a top priority for TCS. Federal and State confidentiality laws do not allow TCS to share specific student information. However, anytime a matter involves possible serious criminal misconduct involving our students, we immediately contact and follow the directives of law enforcement. Once an appropriate investigation is complete, TCS can use long-term suspension from school if warranted under the facts and law. During an investigation, TCS can also use short-term suspension in certain cases. Finally, it is important to note that parents of affected students are immediately notified individually by law enforcement or TCS of an incident when necessary for the safety of their child.
