Sunday was National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day, and we want to give a big shoutout to the dedicated officers who keep our campuses safe every single day!
In Transylvania County Schools, we are proud to have a School Resource Officer (SRO) at all nine of our schools. These officers work every day to keep our students safe. They also serve as positive role models and familiar faces who build meaningful relationships with our students and staff.

Our Blue Devils brought home a perfect 6-0 record from the Henderson County Courthouse and swept three out of four individual awards:

Academic competitions like mock trial develop critical thinking, public speaking, and leadership skills that will serve our students for a lifetime. We're incredibly proud of this team's hard work!
Due to unexpected snowfall in parts of our county and dangerous travel conditions in several areas, schools will be closed for students on Monday, February 9. Our Transportation team monitored the roads and found more than 40 roads along our bus routes are closed due to icy conditions. Today will be an optional teacher workday. Thank you.

Due to icy road conditions in parts of our county and expected low temperatures overnight, Transylvania County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay tomorrow, Friday, February 6. This decision has been made out of an abundance of caution to prioritize the safety of our students and staff.
The delayed start will provide drivers with daylight visibility to safely navigate any remaining slick areas. We believe this is the safest option for our school community.

Due to the significant winter weather our area has experienced this week and last week, we are making an adjustment to our school calendar.
State calendar law limits school systems to only 5 remote learning days per school year, and we have now used our allotted remote learning days due to weather-related closures. To ensure that our students receive the required, in-person instructional time, the planned early release days on Friday, February 13 and Friday, May 1 will now be full instructional days with regular dismissal times.
We recognize that calendar changes may require adjustments to family schedules, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we navigate these weather-related challenges.

TCS will have a Virtual Learning Day tomorrow, Wednesday, February 4, for all students. All school buildings will be closed to students, and students will participate in learning from home.
Our transportation team has continued to assess road conditions throughout the day. Ice and snow remain on roads in several parts of the county, making travel unsafe for students and staff. After checking the roads, our transportation team has determined more than 25 roads on our bus routes to be dangerous for travel.

The TCS Instructional Framework team, led by Chief Academic Officer Carrie Norris and District Instructional Coach Heidi Spradlin, is continuing its work to develop a comprehensive framework for teaching and learning to guide educators during the 2026–2027 school year.
Aligned with the TCS Strategic Plan, this framework is designed to ensure high-quality instruction across all classroom settings and to support rigorous expectations for both teachers and students. The Instructional Framework team will present the completed framework at the May Board of Education meeting.

This week, we celebrate our 11 dedicated school counselors who make a difference in our students' lives every single day.
School counselors support students in many important ways. They provide academic guidance, lend a listening ear, and help our students navigate challenges while building the skills and experience they need to succeed. We deeply appreciate their commitment to every student's growth and well-being.
Our school counselors are supported by an incredible Student Services team, including 4 school social workers, a dedicated school-based therapist, 5 Blue Ridge Health therapists, and School Resource Officers in every school, all working together to ensure our students thrive.
The Transylvania County Schools community is grateful for our school counselors and the Student Services team for everything they do for our students!
This hardworking crew was out all weekend clearing parking lots at our schools following the recent snow. Thanks to the support of Transylvania County Commissioners, we were able to purchase hydraulic plows that attach to our own vehicles—allowing us to handle snow removal in-house instead of hiring contractors like we've done in the past.
This investment not only saves taxpayer dollars but also gives us more control and flexibility when winter weather hits. We're grateful for a team that goes above and beyond to keep our schools accessible and safe!
