School of the Week: Brevard High School
Its Homecoming Week at BHS! Today was "anything but a bookbag day" and these students used their creative thinking skills!

Good evening parents,
Next week, Sept. 23-27 is School Bus Ridership Week in North Carolina. Our transportation funding is dependent on the number of students who ride a school bus during this week. If your child occasionally rides the bus, we ask that you allow them to ride at least one day next week. Thank you for your continued support! #TeachingEveryoneTakesEveryone #TCSTogether

Rounding off the week at Davidson River with.... Clubs! STEAM, Taiko Drumming, Art, Walking, Weightlifting and Gaming just to name a few!

Transylvania County is proud to have the Marine Corp JROTC program serving all three of its high schools. The cadets gathered on Wednesday for their promotion ceremony at Brevard High School. Parents and members from the community attended the event and were invited to do pushups with the cadets to begin the program. Then the cadets were given their promotional ranks and insignia pins. The MC JROTC program is focused on preparing students to become better citizens. #TCSTogether

Taking measurements and keeping time in science for an experiment, co-teaching in math or reading a book--these students are all about learning at DRS!

Constitution Day was September 17th and our students were provided with great constitution activities at each school. The elementary schools did activities such as reading articles on the Constitution, the Constitutional Convention and the Founding Fathers. For TCS 8th graders, the Preamble of Constitutions was delivered by a State Representative. Some middle and high school students enjoyed a "Save the Constitution" escape room, while others took an online tour of historical places that were significant to the creation of the Constitution. Additionally, the high school's Civics course will spend the entire week focusing in on the structure and development of the Constitution.

GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a federally funded college access program designed to increase the number of students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education immediately after high school. Through a wide range of research-grounded services to students, families and teachers, Appalachian GEAR UP aims to improve college-going mindsets, high school graduation rates and postsecondary enrollment rates.
